Inca Trail Packing Limits:
As a socially responsible company, and in our continued effort to support the rights of the porters on the Inca Trail, we ensure that they never exceed the weight limit for their packs as set out by the National Institute of Culture in Peru. Porters are allowed to carry no more than 6kg of personal belongings per hiker. That means that including your sleeping bag, toiletries, clothing, and any other belongings you would like to bring, are not to exceed 6kg. Any additional weight must be carried by you in your day pack. To help achieve this goal we recommend that you carry travel sized toiletries and that you bring sport sandals that can be worn with socks (which are lighter than unning/walking shoes) for when we arrive at the campsites. You should also limit electronics such as IPods as the possibility of rain damage during the wet season is high.
What we Recommend for Trekking in Peru:
The key to staying comfortable while on an active trip is layering. To obtain maximum comfort with minimum weight, you need versatile layers that mix and match to create the right amount of insulation, ventilation and weather protection.
