Our Chincheros, Moray Tour, Maras Full day Tour starts when we pick you up from your hotel at 8:30 am. We travel for about 45 minutes to get to the town of CHINCHERO (3800 m). This place is well known because of its crafts market. Many peasant people come from several communities dressed in their typical Peruvian clothing to sell their handmade wares. This is a wonderful place to see the variety of Peruvian artistry and textile design. In the main square we will find a colonial building (The Church) which was built upon the foundation of Inca walls.
We then head to MORAY (53 km from the city of Cusco) where we find the archaeological site of Moray. The site consists of several enormous terraced circular depressions, the largest of which is about 30 m (98 ft) deep. This large temperature difference of the depressions was possibly used by the Inca to study the effects of different climatic conditions on crops. In other words, Moray was perhaps an Inca agricultural experiment station. The Inca engineers here demonstrated their great knowledge in hydraulics, drainage, water channels, etc. Your guide will give you more information on this fascinating site.
Our next destination is a tour of the SALINERAS OF MARAS. Maras is another Inca-colonial town where you can see the gates of 17th century colonial houses. The vast network of irrigation channels and polygon ponds make this place an ideal photo shoot. Salt has been obtained here since Pre-Inca times by evaporating salty water from the nearby subterranean stream. To this day salt production continues. Returning to Cusco by tourist bus we enjoy our box lunch in Chinchero and we end our tour back in Cusco.
