Sacred Valley Tour

Sacred Valley Tour – Full Day

This Sacred Valley Tour tour is one full day and encompasses the Pisac Marketplace (and/or Pisac ruins), a buffett lunch in Urubamba, Ollantaytambo ruins (the last stand of the Incas), and the Chincheros archaeological site.

Itinerary for the Sacred Valley Tour

At 8:00-8:30 am, we pick you up from your hotel (if your hotel is within the Centre of the City, around Plaza de Armas, otherwise we will arrange to meet you at the cathedral) – group service. In private service we will pick you up at 8:30 am.

We will begin the beautiful scenic drive to the gorgeous Sacred Valley of the Incas. In Pisac, our first stop in the valley, we visit the world famous artisan’s market and ruins (only in private service). We have about an hour to walk around the marketplace, making purchases and seeing the stunning handcrafted quality goods. The ruins are located high above the pueblo, and contains incredible Inca terraces, housing areas, and a red andesitic temple. You will not visit the ruins though, unless you go on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday, when the marketplace is closed (or if you are in private service).

The river that runs through the Sacred Valley has its source high up in the mountains southeast of Cusco, and was venerated by the Incas as a sacred river that represented the cycle of water. It is named the Urubamba River for the main pueblo in the valley, where we enjoy a delicious buffet lunch with international and typical Peruvian cuisine. After eating, we continue on to the most important stop on the Sacred Valley Tour, Ollantaytambo, passing through Urubamba along the way.

Ollantaytambo is one of the most beautiful, and significant, sites in the entire Cusco region and is rich with history that your guide will share. At a distance of 47 mi /76 km from Cusco, it is a very interesting, and typical, pueblo with extensive, well preserved Inca ruins. We will visit the unfinished temples high above the village on the mountainside. It is one of the most impressive Imperial style complexes built by the Incas and is most important because, with the assistance of the Callaguaya and other nations of the Lake Titicaca region, was the stationing point for the “grassroots” attempt to challenge the power of the Pachacutec.

On our way back to Cusco we will make one last stop in Chincheros, a typical Andean agricultural village, where the women display their textiles next to the Inca sites.  We arrive at Cusco around 6:00 pm.

We offer this tour with pooled or private services. With both services, we depart Cusco around 8:30 am.

Group Service: $43 (without General Tourist Ticket – entrances to the sites)

Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays are the preferred departure days because those are the best days to see the Pisaq Marketplace.  If you cannot go on one of those days, then you will instead visit the Pisaq ruins.

Sacred Valley Tour Includes:

  • Private transport
  • Professional, bilingual guide
