Sacred Valley and Best Machu Picchu Tour 2 Days

This Sacred Valley and Best Machu Picchu tour seeks to combine two of the most popular tours in the Cusco area: the ever popular Sacred Valley and the archaeological wonder of Machu Picchu. It is Sacred Valley & Best Machupicchu Tour when your tour begins on Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday, because those are the days that the famous Pisaq Marketplace is open. If you go on any other day then you will instead visit the Pisaq Ruins situated in a picturesque location just over the pueblo.

Sacred Valley and Best Machu Picchu Tour – Itinerary

Day 1: The Sacred Valley

We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:30 am and we will begin with a beautiful scenic ride, over the mountains and through the valleys, to the illustrious Sacred Valley of the Incas and our first stop at the famous Pisaq Marketplace. We will have about an hour to an hour and a half to make our way about the marketplace, finding gorgeous local handcrafted goods that can be purchased for gifts or souvenirs.

Continuing along the valley floor, we will come to our second stop of the day at Urubamba where we will partake in a delicious buffet lunch before continuing on with the tour. We will load our transport for an additional 45 minutes or so to the lovely pueblo, Ollantaytambo, where we will take a tour of the immense and significant ruins to be found there.  Nestled in among the grand mountains of the region, Ollantaytambo is a fine example of a typical Andean pueblo living in the ways of their forefathers.

In the afternoon, we will take a train from Ollantaytambo in a stunning two-hour ride through the various micro climates to Aguas Calientes (when trains are reserved with anticipation; otherwise you will stay in a hotel in Ollantaytambo). Once in Aguas Calientes, you will be shown to your hotels so that you can arrange your things in your room before going to eat dinner at any of the local restaurants (not included). The Machupicchu guide will meet you this evening at your hotel to coordinate the exact time or your guided Best Machu Picchu tour the next day.

Day 2: Best Machu Picchu Tour

There is the option wake up early so that you can have a quick breakfast and then make your way to the bus station.  If you like, you can go up to Machupicchu by one of the first buses at about 5:30-6:00 am. The bus ride up lasts about 30 minutes. Upon your arrival to the site, you will have some time, before the guided tour starts, to take some pictures in the classic photo spots. For those of you who would like to walk up the Huayna Picchu Trail you will need to book this in advance when booking your Sacred Valley and Best Machu Picchu tour. During the tour, your guide will walk you around the immense ruins teaching you about the amazing history of the magical site. The guided tour will last for about two hours, after which you will have a little more time to explore the ruins on your own before making your way down the mountain in the afternoon. Your return time will depend on which train you are taking and how far in advance you are booking; there will be a transfer back to your hotel in Cusco*.

* Train availability is very limited; if we cannot book a train to Poroy a payment of $90 will need to be paid for the transfer from Ollantaytambo to your hotel with 1-4 persons.

  • If you choose the Vistadome train, you may miss the tour of Ollantaytambo as Vistadome trains depart early.
  • The train company PeruRail stipulates that you may only take 5 Kilos, in one backpack, per person, on the train with you.

* If you are traveling in a group please contact us for a customized price quote.
